Sports Bars Leveraging Audio Streaming Tech to Attract New Customers

By | Restaurants, Sports Bars | No Comments

The 2020-2021 Triple Whammy–COVID restrictions, supply chain issues, and labor shortages–have hit restaurants and sports bars harder than most industries. And while a recovery is happening slowly (total spending at quick- and full-service restaurants is up 7% compared to 2019, according to Rewards Network) these hospitality businesses are still challenged to drive sales and adhere to any lingering restrictions, both regulated by local governments and strongly encouraged by local customers.

To address these restrictions, create unique experiences that attract new customers, and help stand out from other local businesses, sports bars and restaurants are leveraging AudioFetch’s next-generation audio over WiFi technology.

AudioFetch provides an innovative and safe way for customers to listen to muted TVs in the bar. The sports bar sound system allows bar owners to broadcast audio from any and all muted TVs to their customers’ smartphones. Customers can then listen through the free AudioFetch app from anywhere in the bar or restaurant, on the patio, in the parking lot, or even the restroom (hey, some folks don’t want to miss a second of the game!).

Meeting regulations and creating a safer environment

Staying up-to-date on the constantly changing rules and regulations has certainly been a challenge. They can flip-flop seemingly overnight and restaurants have had to remain agile to ensure they adhere. Not to mention the wavering fears and comfort levels of customers, which can swing widely by the week and result in disruptions and lost revenue as businesses try to adapt.

AudioFetch has evolved with sports bars as they moved from outdoor-only seating and parking lot “tailgate parties” last spring and summer, to half capacity with at least six feet of space between tables over the winter, to full capacity with no-standing-at-the-bar rules over the past few months. The audio streaming technology allows customers to maintain the proper distance between people and tables without needing to blast the TV volume.

So no matter what the current regulations are, even when they finally get to that “normal” we all keep dreaming about, AudioFetch supports the needs of both the business and its customers.

Airing multiple games for diverse audiences

It’s rare for a sports bar to air the same game on all of their screens. Oftentimes it’s a few different games all taking place at the same time, and for the larger establishments, it might even be several different sports or events throughout the building. To appeal to the widest audience and create a welcoming environment for everyone, even the non-sports fans, all of the TVs must be muted.

Some sports bars provide tabletop speakers so separate tables can tune in to a single TV. This solution is okay when your building has the right acoustics and your customers are on the friendlier, more considerate side. Yet, even in these situations, it can become very loud with competing audio on a table-by-table basis.

AudioFetch provides a more accommodating solution. Each individual sports fan selects the game/TV they want to hear and listens through their own smartphone and headphones. So even if a single table is divided on which game/TV to watch, they have options to make the experience their own or flip around to different channels as desired.

Note: AudioFetch can also be used with tabletop speakers if that’s the preferred method for the business. Simply connect a single phone to the speaker via Bluetooth, use an attachable sound amplifier, or even place the phone in a glass or bowl to increase the volume for the entire table.

Upgrade to AudioFetch

Why Customers are Upgrading to AudioFetch from Tunity

By | Business, Fitness Centers, Restaurants, Sports Bars, Wireless Audio | No Comments

Is Tunity hitting a sour note with your customers?

We often hear from sports bars, gyms, universities, casinos and other businesses that are encouraging their customers to use Tunity’s app to hear muted TVs, but are dissatisfied with the option. As social distancing mandates continue and accessibility becomes a higher priority, we’re working with more and more businesses that need to upgrade their audio over WiFi streaming offering to AudioFetch.

Below are some of the reasons customers turn to AudioFetch when looking for a Tunity app alternative:

Works with Streaming Services

AudioFetch allows listeners to hear any program that’s playing on any TV. That could be a program streaming on Netflix, Hulu, Apple+, Amazon Prime Video, HBOMax, or any other streaming service. Tunity only allows listeners to hear audio from media broadcasts on major national networks only. Most local news and local programming don’t work either.

Works with DVDs and Blue-Rays

When we mentioned any program playing on any TV, that also includes DVDs, Blue-Ray discs, and downloaded digital copies of movies. Heck, it even includes VHS tapes and laserdiscs, if you’ve still got the working players laying around!

No Annoying Commercials

One of the biggest complaints we hear is that the audio ads are incessant, and the only way to get around them is to pay for a premium service. According to one recent review

“I timed it on Saturday during the gator game and it cut off the game sound every 10 mins to watch some stupid irrelevant commercial. Why every 10 minutes? And why not make it during a tv timeout commercial. I was literally cut off 19 times during the game to the annoying ‘bring the app upfront to watch a commercial.’ Way too many commercials for sporting events.”

This is a complaint from a listener, but business owners also lament this feature because they’re essentially letting other businesses advertise directly to their customers! Without getting a dime in return! And what happens if the ad is for a competing business? Now that’s a conflict of interest if I’ve ever heard one!

AudioFetch does not include a single ad in the audio stream, and listeners will never have to pay a cent to use the app. The only “ads” that are allowed in the AudioFetch app are placed there by the business owner, and our customers typically use this space to advertise their own specials and events.

Low Latency and Near Perfect Auto Syncing

Perhaps tied for the biggest complaint is the audio delay/syncing issue. Customers complain that the audio often gets out of alignment with the TV programming. The company has provided a solution for this with “Fine Tune Audio Sync” buttons within the app, which allow customers to fast forward or rewind to sync the audio themselves. Yet, the frequent ads cause the audio to get out of whack, which means customers are forced to fine-tune every ten minutes or so. Not fun when you’re trying to enjoy a game at the bar, and not safe if you’re running on a treadmill at the gym!

AudioFetch has a distributed processing platform that scales with the number of channels to ensure the lowest latency possible. The techniques employed in the development of the mobile AudioFetch App also ensure minimal latency.

Doesn’t Drain Battery Life

The Tunity app uses GPS on your device to scan for channels in the area and local time. This frequent GPS usage can result in rapid battery drain if channels are scanned too often. Another battery-draining feature is the aforementioned commercials. Some listeners have complained that their phones die before the end of games because of this drain.

AudioFetch works by connecting to the local WiFi network once, and then you manually select which TV/channel to listen to. No battery-sucking features required.

Attentive, Expert Support

We stand behind the AudioFetch products and service and are happy to help you through any technical or logistical challenges you may encounter. AudioFetch won’t connect to WiFi? We help with that! Less tech-savvy customers can’t figure out how to download the app? We got you covered. No issue is too big or too small.

Should you encounter any issues and need support, you will engage with a person well-versed in all aspects of AudioFetch by calling us at 1-844-443-3824, scheduling an appointment or contacting us. You can also visit our Frequently Asked Questions section to find out more about common questions about our products and services.

In the immortal words of Mr. Kurt Vonnegut: “In this world, you get what you pay for.” (He used it in a slightly different context, but knowing his futuristic and sci-fi slant, we think he’d approve of the connection to next-gen tech that would have been mind-blowing in his heyday!). And when you don’t pay a cent for something, you can typically expect that same low-price-point level of service.

How to Hear The Game at a Crowded Bar This Football Season

By | Restaurants, Sports Bars | No Comments

Today is the first day of the NFL season, and we couldn’t be more excited! We’re looking forward to cheering on our favorite team (Go Broncos!) at some local sports bars (like Hogfish Seafood & Smokehouse in Loveland, CO!), and know many other fans are gearing up to do the same.

While things aren’t quite back to normal in most areas, we’re hearing from our hospitality customers across the United States and Canada that things are picking back up, and they expect packed houses during game days. If you’re a football fan that plans to hit up your local pub to catch the game, you might have some questions about how you can tune in to your team and have a better experience overall.

We’ve gathered answers to some of the most common questions we get about sports bar sound systems and using the AudioFetch app to hear muted TVs:

How do I listen to TV at a bar?

Bars that use AudioFetch allow you to listen to TVs through your personal smartphone or tablet. You download the free AudioFetch app, connect to the local WiFi, choose which TV you want to hear and start listening immediately. You can switch the channel to hear the game or program playing on another TV at any time.

Can I hear my TV through my phone?

AudioFetch allows you to hear TV through your phone using the free AudioFetch app. When used as a bar audio solution, AudioFetch can accommodate 16 audio inputs with a single unit, or up to 512 by using additional units. That means you choose to listen to one of 512 TVs with the swipe of a thumb (how many TVs does your local sports bar have?!).

How do I listen to a muted TV?

AudioFetch technology allows you to listen to muted TVs using only your smartphone and headphones. It doesn’t matter where you are in relation to the TV–right next to it, on the patio, even in the bathroom–as long as you’re connected to the local wireless network, you can listen via the free AudioFetch app.

How can I hear TV without disturbing others?

AudioFetch wireless audio streaming allows you to listen to the TV at any volume through headphones connected to your phone.

This means someone at a sports bar can hear commentary on the Lumberjack World Championships playing on a single TV tucked in the corner, while the rest of the bar watches football! It also works great in fitness centers, waiting rooms, airports and even your home–allowing anyone to hear TV without distracting others or getting distracted themselves.

Does AudioFetch work with streaming services?

Yes! AudioFetch allows listeners to hear any program that’s playing on any TV. Unlike Tunity, which only allows you to pick up audio from media broadcasts, AudioFetch can be used with Netflix, Hulu, AppleTV, Amazon Prime Video, or any other streaming service.

If you’re looking for a local spot to catch the game with AudioFetch, check out a map of our customers and look for the knife and spoon icon.

If your favorite spot doesn’t offer AudioFetch, let us know. We’ll reach out and see if we can work with them to bring AudioFetch to you.

And finally, if you’re a sports bar that would like to add AudioFetch for the busy football season, get a hold of us today. Shipping and installation is quick, and we can have you up and running well before Tom Brady secures the all-time yardage record! Give us a call 1-844-443-3824, drop us a line, or schedule an appointment.

FAQs About Home Audio Streaming Devices

By | Home Audio | No Comments

It’s hard to believe that we released AudioFetch Home, our home audio solution, nearly one year ago! Time really flies when you’re making up for lost fun!

We introduced AudioFetch Home in October 2020 to address a real need we saw in the market. With more people forced to stay home in quarantine, many families found it challenging to maintain a peaceful and enjoyable environment. Drawing on the same technology we’ve used for the last two decades for our commercial products, AudioFetch Home helps families, couples and seniors hear better in their house, reduces distractions and creates a more high-tech environment.

There’s been some fantastic interest in AudioFetch Home over the past year. Customers have used it in their home gyms, for backyard movie nights and for hearing assistance. We’ve even had customers purchase our commercial wireless audio streaming solutions after having such a positive experience with Home.

We’ve also fielded some fantastic questions about home audio solutions and audio over WiFi technology. We wanted to share answers to some of the most common questions we get asked, in case you’re wondering the same thing.

Top FAQs about Home Audio Streaming

How does home audio over WiFi work?

Audio over WiFi delivers high-quality audio content without requiring hard wiring. Audio over WiFi  systems include an audio transmitter, an audio receiver and an audio playback device. In the case of AudioFetch, the transmitter is the AudioFetch Home (or Express or Signature products for commercial use), and both the receiver and playback devices are a smartphone, making it a much simpler and more affordable solution.

Can I hear my TV through my phone?

AudioFetch works by streaming TV audio to your smartphone or tablet through the free AudioFetch app. And it’s not just cable programs that you can hear; anything you watch on your TV, whether that’s through Netflix, Hulu, Roku, Apple TV, YouTube or DVDs, will work when using the AudioFetch Home device.

How can I watch TV without disturbing others?

AudioFetch Home allows you to listen to the TV audio via your smartphone, tablet or bluetooth connected hearing aid. The TV volume can be low or even zero for anyone else in the room, but you can hear the audio crystal clear through the AudioFetch app. You can adjust the volume as needed through the app or your device, and this won’t change the sound for others.

Why would you want to watch TV without disturbing others? There are numerous reasons:
– If you have a hearing impairment and need the volume much higher than others
– If you want to watch TV in bed without waking your partner
– If have an open-concept living space like a loft or warehouse, where any sound carries throughout
– If you want to hear the TV while working out on a treadmill or other noisy machine

How can I improve the sound of my TV for the hard of hearing?

AudioFetch Home acts as a TV sound amplifier by streaming the TV audio to smartphones via the AudioFetch app. All you have to do is plug AudioFetch Home into your TV, connect your phone to the Home wireless network, and download the AudioFetch app. That’s it! You can start listening immediately using headphones or connecting to your hearing aid with bluetooth.

Read “AudioFetch Home: The Next-Gen TV Ears Alternative” for more information.

How can I hear better without using a hearing aid?

AudioFetch allows you to stream audio over WiFi to your smartphone or tablet. Instead of using a hearing aid, or another type of hearing device, you simply listen via the free AudioFetch app using headphones or earbuds. Whether you’re in your home or at a public venue like a theater, house of worship or fitness center, it’s the simplest, most efficient, most discreet (and most sanitary) way to hear better without using a hearing aid.

Read “How to Hear the TV Better Without Needing a Hearing Aid” blog post for more information.

Do hearing aids work with AudioFetch Home?

Yes! If you use a hearing aid, AudioFetch easily pairs with your device via bluetooth, a feature supported by most of the major hearing aid manufacturers, including Oticon, Phonak, GN ReSound, Widex, etc.

How to hear the TV when on the treadmill?

Many people complain that to hear the TV while using a treadmill requires the TV volume to be 100%, and sometimes they still can’t hear it. That’s not ideal for your TV speakers and for others living in the same house (maybe even for the neighbors, too!). A wireless audio streaming solution like AudioFetch Home allows you to hear the TV in your home gym without blasting the volume.

Hidden Jams Creates Unique Silent Concert Experience with AudioFetch

By | Customer Spotlight, Music, Silent Disco | No Comments

We’re continually blown away by the creativity of our customers, and the clever ways they come up with to bring communities together with AudioFetch. A recent application by an Italian organization was so clever, we just had to share it!

Unsurpassed Music in Unconventional Locations

Hidden Jams is a one-of-a-kind project focused on creating unique musical experiences to showcase, celebrate and promote the excellence of the Bel Pease (i.e., the beautiful country of Italy). According to their Instagram account, “Hidden Jams takes music everywhere encapsulating the most special moments and the essence of those places in high-quality video, whether it’s a village that smells of history, a breathtaking landscape or the top of a mountain.”

Silent Concert in the Open Air

The Turin-based organization has recently launched a silent concert series and hosted their first open-air event earlier this month on a quiet plot at Cascina Mallona in Savigliano. With a tree-speckled vista and hip camper van as a backdrop, a lone musician played to an intimate group of attendees listening via the AudioFetch app on their smartphones.

To any onlookers not listening with AudioFetch, it might seem as if the musician was just miming the performance. But for those streaming with AudioFetch, they were able to experience the music as if they were attending a personal concert.

Simple Setup and Intuitive App

Within just a few short weeks after receiving their AudioFetch, Hidden Jams was already making use of the audio over WiFi streaming device for this first event. The organization used this event as a pilot to test the system and work out any logistical aspects, and based on their feedback  (“It was a success!” said Alice F of Hidden Jams), they’re looking forward to more silent concerts in the near future.

Check out a couple of photos from the picturesque event and follow Hidden Jams on Instagram for more photos and videos.

World Lutheran Deaf Outreach Ministry Provides Hearing Assistance with AudioFetch

By | AudioFetch News, Churches, Hearing Assistance | No Comments

We’re proud to work with businesses and organizations that help to bring communities together and raise awareness about hearing health around the world. We wanted to highlight a commendable organization that we’ve recently had the pleasure of working with to provide an assistive listening solution–World Lutheran Deaf Outreach Ministry.

Meet World Lutheran Deaf Outreach Ministry

World Lutheran Deaf Ministry Logo

World Lutheran Deaf Outreach Ministry (WLDO) seeks to connect with the 98% of deaf and hard of hearing individuals who do not attend church because of hearing concerns. Various factors–sentence structure, passive voice, inefficient hearing assistance devices–have historically made attending services a challenge, but WLDO is changing that! Through resources, training, worship, and small group study, WLDO is helping deaf and hard of hearing people come together where they previously couldn’t.

WLDO has deaf ministries in locations around the country, including Emmanuel Lutheran Church of the Deaf in Milwaukee, WI, Our Savior Deaf Lutheran Church in Madison, WI, Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Delavan, WI, Life in Christ Church in Peoria, AZ, Trinity Lutheran Church in Litchfield Park, AZ, Holy-Three-In-One Lutheran Deaf Church in Houston, TX, and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, MS.

How WLDO Discovered AudioFetch for Assistive Listening

We were introduced to WLDO through a customer that had previously purchased our home audio streaming solution, AudioFetch Home. “My hearing is significantly impaired (60% loss) and I really can’t understand TV programs,” says Galen Stanely, who purchased AudioFetch Home in November 2020. “With AudioFetch Home streaming to my Bluetooth hearing aids via my iPhone, the audio is crystal clear. I use it every day.”

After having such a positive experience with Home, Galen recommended AudioFetch to his pastor. “Our WLDO pastor ministers full time to hearing impaired and deaf people in our area and all across the US,” Galen added. “He uses the highly mobile AudioFetch Express for both worship and small group study while visiting many churches and congregations.”

The Most Affordable Assistive Listening Solution for Churches

Houses of worship around the world use AudioFetch Express as simple, affordable, and flexible assistive listening devices for churches, as well as to provide real-time translation services. AudioFetch eliminates the need for maintenance-intensive and unhygienic assistive listening devices or expensive and complex hearing loop systems. It’s simple to install and easy for listeners to use via the free AudioFetch app on their smartphone or tablet.

If you’re looking for an effective and cost-efficient way to provide accessibility for your hearing-impaired members, AudioFetch is the ideal solution! Contact us by calling 844-HI-FETCH or scheduling an appointment to discuss your house of worship application and free get a quote.

AudioFetch Blog Header - Wireless Audio Distribution

What is Wireless Audio Distribution?

By | Wireless Audio | No Comments

Being part of the audio industry for nearly two decades, we’ve seen an unbelievable amount of change and growth. We’re excited to see that with each passing year, while the technology becomes more advanced and sophisticated, the listener experience becomes more user-friendly and simpler.

Yet, some of the terms we use to describe various concepts, products and features can be confusing. So today we’d like to address one of those potentially puzzling topics–wireless audio distribution.

Let’s dive in!

What is wireless audio distribution?

Wireless audio distribution is a way to deliver high-quality audio content without requiring hard-wiring. It’s a great option for public events or activities that require sound, but do not have the infrastructure (or budget!) for a complex installation of hardware and cables.

While there are numerous types of wireless audio distribution systems out there, they all include the same four components:
1. Audio source
2. Audio transmitter
3. Audio receiver
4. Audio reproduction or playback device (i.e., amplifier or speaker)

How does wireless audio distribution work?

A transmitter receives an audio signal from a source (e.g., TV, music, person speaking, etc.) then transmits the signal over a wireless network. The receiver picks up this wireless signal and sends it to an audio reproduction devices (i.e., speaker or amplifier) which turns the signal into audible sound.

Who uses wireless audio distribution?

Numerous different types of businesses and events use wireless audio distribution systems. Here are just a few examples:
– Race tracks
Sports stadiums
– Live music events
Auctions
– Business conference rooms
Theaters
Legislative proceedings
Educational institutions
Churches and houses of worship
Airports
Casinos
– Event centers
Warehouses
– Community centers

Is AudioFetch a wireless audio distribution system?

Yes, it certainly is! AudioFetch is not your traditional wireless audio distribution system, but that’s why our customers love it. Instead of requiring separate receivers and playback devices, AudioFetch allows people to hear the audio on their smartphones. This makes it a much simpler and more affordable solution.

For businesses there’s no need to purchase, install and maintain speaker systems or provide individual hearing devices. And for listeners, they already have the receiver and playback device in their pocket already. It’s a simplified solution for everyone!

If you would like to know more about wireless audio distribution for your business, or would like to purchase a wireless audio solution, don’t hesitate to contact us by calling 844-HI-FETCH, dropping us a line here or scheduling an appointment at your convenience.

10 Tech Gadgets You Need for Your Home This Summer

By | Home Audio | No Comments

Summer is finally here and many people have big plans after the Lost Summer of 2020. Family vacations, cross-country road trips, patio hangs and backyard BBQs with friends, or simply just getting back into a more “normal” routine of going into the office and running errands outside the house.

Whatever you have planned for this summer, there are loads of gadgets and technology that will make your life easier, your experience more enjoyable and continue to keep your loved ones safe. Check out these 10 must-have tech gadgets for your home this summer:

1. Plugin Air Purifier & Sanitizer

We’ve all likely become a bit (to say it lightly!) more aware of germs and bacteria over the past year. If you’ve developed a bit of a phobia (or maybe always had one), then you need to get the GermGuardian. Using the power of UV-C light technology, GermGuardian kills airborne germs, reducing or eliminating the ability for fungi, bacteria and viruses to spread around your home, and it fights odors. It’s a simple setup — just plug it into any outlet in your home and it starts working immediately.

2. Outdoor Smart Plugs

Kasa Smart Outdoor Plug

Smart plugs like WeMo are great for controlling lamps and electronics indoors, but what if your outlets will be outside in the elements? Then you need the Kasa Smart Outdoor Plug KP400. Control your patio lights, pool pump, sprinklers or any other outdoor electronics, from anywhere, through an app. The plug is IP64 weather-resistant, ensuring that it will be protected from dust and water from any direction.

3. Security Cameras

Wyze Security Camera

Whether you want to keep an eye on your pets or monitor activity outside your home, the Wyze Cam V3 is the perfect, affordable solution. 4. Doorbell Camera

Ezviz Doorbell Camera

See who’s at your door and monitor package deliveries from anywhere, whether that’s simply in the backyard or driving cross-country on a road trip. The Ezviz DB1C smart video doorbell camera provides Ultra HD video, dual-band WiFi, cloud and local video storage, voice control and helpful support. It’s one of the most feature-rich and affordable video doorbells out there.

5. Home Audio Solution

AudioFetch Express Front View - Audio Over WiFI

Nothing says summer like drive-in movies! You can bring that nostalgic activity to your backyard with our home audio solution. AudioFetch Home is a simple, innovative solution for streaming audio over WiFi from a computer, DVD player, TV or any audio source. Simply plug it in, connect to the wireless network (choose from your local WiFi or AudioFetch Home’s built-in network), download the app and start listening.

In addition to backyard movie nights, AudioFetch Home can be used as a TV sound amplifier, to hear the TV better in your home gym, or to watch TV in small spaces without disturbing others. It’s a handy, portable and affordable device for every home!

6. Auto Pet Feeder

Pawple

Now that you’re not home all day every day to spoil your pets, you might find it difficult to get back to the right feeding schedule. An automatic pet feeder like Pawple solves that issue. This feeder holds up to 20 cups of dry dog or cat food, and allows you to program portion size and precise mealtimes. You can even record a personal voice message to play, alerting your furry friends that it’s time to eat and reminding them that you haven’t forgotten about them while out!
